Sunflower is our flower of the month for April 2025.
We love the sunflower! This plant comes in so many sizes and colors, and it is a very functional plant and flower, with many uses.
The photo shows this flower as it grew at our urban farm in Pennsylvania.
This photo is a version of the photo referred to as “my favorite sunflower photo” by our farm’s co-founder Marc Laucks.
He says:
“I planted this sunflower from seed and photographed it at the height of its beauty.
I feel very fortunate to have gotten this shot.
The blue color behind the flower is the side of a teal blue Saab.
The center disk of the flower was treated in Adobe Lightroom to bring the shadows up somewhat and a small amount of saturation was added during processing. Other than those edits, this photo is untouched.”
About Sunflowers
You might not know it but there are over 70 species of sunflower.
Some are very, very tall. Others are super short. And there’s everything in between.
Many come in the colors shown in this photo. Others are even more yellow. We grow a specifies that is red.
Expect to see a lot of sunflowers at our farm! There’s a reason we put this flower in our logo and illustrations.
It’s a wonderful plant and very functional as well. We’re excited to introduce visitors to the farm to four or five specifics every year.
